Choosing a New Water Heater

Without the water heater, your shower and bath time will be freezing. Don’t you love waking up in the morning or coming home from a long day at work and stepping into a hot shower? It’s a great feeling.

But imagine stepping into your shower, turning the faucet and you are hit with sharp cold shots of water. It’s never a good feeling.

When looking for a new water heater whether yours is broken or reaching the end of its lifespan you will want to look at several things before you buy.

Compare

The first thing you should do when looking for a new water heater is compare. The technology in water heating systems is changing fast. You’ll want to check the ratings of the water heater. Many people have probably purchased it before you so just look at the reviews. Look at the EF (energy factor). The EF has a scale and the higher the number the more energy efficient the product is.

Factors To Consider

Some factors to consider are how energy efficient the water heater is. No one wants to have to worry about how much they are going to have to pay monthly or watch how long their showers are.

There are a few different types of water heaters which include:

Tankless Water Heater – It never runs out of hot water and save 30 to 50 percent more energy over gas water heaters. The downside is it take a little longer to warm up.

Hybrid Electric Heat-Pump Water Heater – This has the lowest operating cost of any water heater on the market. But these cost much more than regular heaters and are much bigger. Make sure it fits.

Condensing Gas Water Heaters – This is the most energy efficient gas tank on the market. But they cost over $2,000.

Electric Point-Of-Use Tankless Water Heaters – Reduces water waste and you don’t have to wait for hot water. It requires a 220-volt or 110-volt high-amperage circuit.

Conventional Gas Water Heaters – Lowest cost and easiest to install. This is the most basic and not energy efficient.

How Often Does It Need Maintenance?

Regular Maintenance of you water heater is good to have at least once a month. If you need immediate care for you water heater you should see how long it takes for the heater to kick in and make sure it gets as hot as it usually does with no in and outs.
